Lime Kilm in Roche Harbor

For many years in the late 1800s,  limestone was quarryed and baked into quick lime.   There are four lime kilms standing the town of Roache Harbor on the nort end of San Juan Island.  A large wood fire was built at the bottom and the limestone broken into chunks was loaded in a hopper from the top.
