This is a few of the images taken during a week long “Wild West Workshop” in Casper, Wyoming during June 2015. The workshop was sponsered by the local camera store “Wyoming Camera Outters”, with some support from Canon. The instructor was
Rick Sammon, a Canon Explorer of Light.
I would like to extend my personal thanks to Rick for his excellent instruction and guidance, To Dinty and Cris of the Wyoming Camera Outfitters (even though they gave me a hard time as the only Nikon user in the group) and to the local models who were great to work with. I also cannot fail to thank the other workshop attendees who were worderful people to be and work with.
The photos are from the following locations:
Fort Casper, a recreation of the the fort on the Oregon Trail build in 1857 to protect the river crossing. Special thanks to the four reenactors.
Then came a visit to the Casper Event Center, home of this year’s Colligete Rodeo National Fines, a 6 day event.
The next shooting location was the Wonder Bar in downtown Casper. Said to be about a 100 years old (maybe). Also said to have been visited by Ernest Hemingway, John Wayne, and even some of the surging members of the original Hold in the Wall Gang.
We had it to ourselves on Sunday Morning, just us, the local models and a pair of horses.
On the say to Ayres Natural Bridge State Park, we stopped by huge field of discarded farm equipment and other junk.
Two shots taken at the Park.
More local models, this time in the Backwards Distillery.
We headed out of town for a couple of days. The first destination was the North Platt River near Fremont Canyon. Up at 3:20 AM to boat up the canyon for sunrise.
Last, a visit to Sun Ranch for semi-wild horses and a cowboy dutch oven dinner.
They had been getting thunderstorms every day, so the fields were wet and muddy. This lead at dusk to vast couds of blood sucking mosquitoes.
